Topic: Dentofacial Esthetics: a new face on interdisciplinary dentistry
Speaker: David M. Sarver, DMD, MS

In Restorative dentistry, aesthetics is discussed in terms of anterior tooth display and smile design. To Orthodontists and Oral surgeons it is the facial profile. Interdisciplinary treatment in dentistry has progressed enormously in the past two decades, with collaboration between dentists and all the specialties of dentistry. This has resulted in superior results compared to those achieved working without collaboration. But our vision can now expand to broader appearance issues. With the assessment and treatment of other dimensions of smile and facial esthetics, the target for the patient may be the ultimate dentofacial esthetic outcome. This lecture will demonstrate the coordination of care between the disciplines of dentistry and facial plastic surgery resulting in outstanding enhancement of our aesthetic and functional results. We will introduce the imaginative use of new technologies for diagnosis, patient communication, and interdisciplinary communication and documentation.
